Arctic Nomad

“Arctic Nomad”

Every winter is filled with anticipation for me as this is when the beautiful snowy owls come down from the Arctic to their wintering grounds. Often this means driving a number of hours just to get to their habitat area, and even then, there certainly is no guarantee that you’ll see one. And finding these elusive owls is no easy task as they blend in with their surroundings so well, especially when it’s in snow covered fields. Often, it’s like finding a needle in a haystack! Being from the Arctic where there is very little human disturbance, they’re not used to traffic, so even when you do find one, capturing a photo can certainly be a challenge as they are very flighty. Thank goodness for long lenses!
