Article: Emperor of the Valley

Emperor of the Valley

Emperor of the Valley

“Emperor of the Valley”

While photographing bull moose in the rut up in the alpine meadows of the Canadian Rockies, I watched this massive bull moose defending his harem of females from a rival bull.  When I came across him, he was putting the run on another smaller moose, who retreated into the nearby forest. I’ve often seen moose with one mate during the rut, but the fact this big guy had 2, and wasn’t about to lose either one, confirmed with me that he truly was the emperor of the valley!
