Frolicking

“Frolicking Fawns”

We often found the white-tailed deer very skittish whenever they passed through our yard. Yet this one spring we had a doe that we often found feeding in the nearby bushes and not concerned about our presence as we watched through the windows.  One late spring evening, we noticed her slowly stepping out from the bushes along our driveway, followed by the tiniest fawn we had ever seen! It couldn’t have been more than a few hours old as it wobbled its’ way out of the forest. We were in awe! Especially when does usually don’t bring their fawns out of the forest for 2-3 weeks! She was a proud momma showing us her newborn baby! That summer we were so fortunate to be able to witness everyday the growth and antics of this tiny creature in our backyard! We would watch as mom brought him out to nurse on the grass and then groom him before leading him into the forest to bed him down, so she too could go and eat. As he grew, we would watch it frolicking, jumping, and leaping around its mom as she ate and then dashing across the yard!  Within a few weeks, when he was stronger, momma then led him out into the big new world!  What a blessing from nature!
